There are MANY benefits in becoming an appointment setter. I’d like to highlight three specifically: location freedom, financial freedom, and time freedom. If you’re coming from a traditional 9-5 job, then becoming an appointment setter is a big change in your professional life.
The traditional “work culture” of working 40+ hours a week, getting a few paid vacations per year, getting up early, working in an office, hoping for a raise, etc. is, in my opinion, very unfulfilling and unsatisfying. And I think it is critical to educate people and get the word out that it is NOT the only way to make a living.
However, I realize that everyone is entitled to their own conception of “work” and what that should look like. The idea of working strictly for commission may be looked at in many circles as a disadvantage. I have the opposite opinion, that working for TIME and getting paid by the HOUR is a horrible transaction and allows for little flexibility and freedom in one’s life (albeit with a sacrifice in security).
So I’d like to preface this by saying that appointment setting is not for everyone. Like most things in life, there are trade-offs. There is nothing wrong with working a traditional 9-5 job if it suits you and there are many advantages to being employed in them. BUT, appointment setting in my opinion is a fascinating alternative if you prefer a more independent, adventurous, and liberating lifestyle.
Location Freedom
Appointment setting is a 100% remote job. The only requirement is that you must be able to send direct messages to people, therefore a phone, laptop, tablet, or other such device and an internet connection is all that is required. Unlike other remote jobs, you don’t need a home office, an elaborate computer and monitor setup, or high speed internet.
So what does a remote job allow you to do? Work anywhere you want! And again, you have no need for a sophisticated computer or setup. When I was working I simply had an iphone and a macbook air. I would work in restaurants, beach clubs, on the beach, on the road, in airports, at events, at home in my underwear, etc. You name it!
Not only can you work in almost any immediate location you like, but you also have incredible flexibility in your permanent location. You can travel, you can live in Bermuda for a month and then move to Spain. You can stay right where you are. You can live in a van and road trip through the countryside. The possibilities are only limited to your imagination.
Financial Freedom
My dream for a big part of my life was to become financially free. To me, that simply meant living my life without having to worry about money. I could eat what I want, buy what I want, live where I want, and do what I want without worrying about what it costs. Now obviously this depends on your lifestyle. If you want to live the lifestyle of Mike Tyson in his prime, I have bad news for you.
My first month of doing appointment setting full-time (20 hours a week is what I considered full-time for me), I made close to $4,000. Over the next few months I would climb to $5,000 and close to $7,000. Now this is not a buy-a-cadillac-with-straight-cash type of income, but I was living in Bali and Thailand at the time and only spent an average of $1,500 - $2,000 per month. So I was living it up, working 4 hours per day with weekends off, I took full MONTHS of vacation at a time, and I was saving as much money as I was when I was living with my parents.
And if you’re more financially ambitious than I was, you're welcome to work 5, 6, 8 hours per day and make a lot more money. A lot of our students make $10k+ because they want to earn more. It’s up to you and what YOU feel would make you financially free.
Time Freedom
All these benefits are great, but for me personally, having more free time is the best part. I was working 12 hour shifts at my previous job, sometimes 6 days a week. My life revolved around my job, and I think a lot of people are in a similar situation.
Starting in my first month as an appointment setter, my life was now revolving around ME and what I wanted to do. For me that meant waking up early (don’t hate, it works for me), going to the gym, eating an awesome breakfast, relaxing, taking a nap, and then doing work in the afternoon. That’s the schedule I wanted so I did it.
You still have to work at least 3 hours per day to make a decent living as an appointment setter, but WHEN you work those hours are up to you. And you get to fill your day with whatever you want to do! Nap? Travel? Exercise? Sleep in? Spend time with your kids? See your friends? Time is the common currency all life shares! Having the opportunity to have more of it without sacrificing your income is a GIFT!
Conclusion
Appointment setting gives you access to a more liberating lifestyle than a traditional 9-5 job. Specifically, you will have the freedom to work and live wherever you want, you will have the ability to make enough money to be financially secure and free, and you will have more free time to do what you really want in life.
